The Sample Network
nodes: tracks & records · edges: “swirled into”
Tracks wired to the records they swirl. Colour = community; size = connections. Click to isolate.
PL track
sampled record
A handful of records anchor every cluster. Most tracks reach back to the same small canon of soul, funk and hip-hop.

The Artist Web
nodes: sampled artists · edges: “swirled into the same track”
The record network one level up. Two artists are wired together when Pretty Lights pulled a record from each into the same track. Collapsing an artist’s records into one node closes the gaps the record graph leaves, so the clusters here are the ones that survive that confound.

Lifting the graph from records to the artists behind them roughly doubles the biggest connected cluster, from 17% of nodes to 34%. The pockets are real; the record graph just cut them in half.

ReadingNode size = how many other artists it shares a track with. Colour = detected community, capped at three hues because a force layout puts every pair side by side; everything past the cap is one neutral, which the legend names. Node POSITION carries nothing.
